Tisa Smart-Washington was elected Rockdale County Tax Commissioner in 2016 after being appointed Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner in Rockdale in 2013. Prior to joining the Tax Commissioner’s Office, Tisa served as Communication Writer in the Office of the CEO of DeKalb County and Editor of the Rockdale News.

A graduate of Leadership Rockdale and Regional Leadership Institute, she has been a member of several organizations in Rockdale, including Rotary Club of Conyers, Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful, Rockdale Young Professional Leaders, Angie’s House, Rockdale NAACP, The Nonprofit Consortium, Rockdale County Public Schools Superintendent’s Advisory Council, Rockdale County Public Schools Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council, NCNW, the Rockdale County Democratic Party, Top Ladies of Distinction and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Tisa earned a B.A. in Communications from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA; an MBA from Troy University in Troy, AL; and an MPA from Harvard University in Cambridge, MA.
