Judge V.T. McRae
Judge V.T. McRae was appointed by Governor Brian Kemp to serve as the next Chief Judge of Rockdale County State Court. His most recent role was as an Assistant Solicitor General in Gwinnett County, prosecuting misdemeanor crimes.
Judge McRae is a retired Army JAG Officer (Judge Advocate General Corps). He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his combat deployment to Iraq with the 82d Airborne Division. He also earned the coveted Master Parachutist Badge.
Upon retirement from the Army, he has served in Senior Leadership roles with Hibbett Sports as a Vice President and with Walmart. He also served as a Magistrate Court Judge Court for Rockdale County, GA to assist with the backlog of cases caused during the pandemic.
Judge McRae has served as a volunteer youth sports coach since he was 17 years old. He considers it his ministry to help guide young men, by teaching them life lessons through sports. He was the volunteer Head High School Boys Varsity Basketball Coach for Peachtree Academy, Covington, GA. His Teams won 3 Straight Regional Conference Titles and made Back-to-Back State Final Four Appearances. He also coached his sons’ Nationally Ranked Travel Basketball Team, Worldwide Hustle.
He is a proud graduate of Hampton University, VA, and Michigan State University Law School.
He is a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
He is married to Dr. Sha’ Ronda McRae and they have 3 sons.
