Rockbridge Road Bridge Ribbon Cutting
ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Rockdale County Department of Transportation is holding a ribbon cutting for
the newly replaced Rockbridge Road Bridge. The ribbon cutting will take place on Dec. 9, 2022, at 10 a.m. on
Rockbridge Road, Lake Capri Bridge.
The Lake Capri Bridge project used SPLOST dollars for its completion; approximately $1.8 million dollars of
SPLOST funds went to completing the bridge. Brian Kelley, Director of Transportation, says “Rockdale
Department of Transportation is proud to celebrate the completion of this eagerly anticipated project. The
reopening of the Rockbridge Road Bridge is a great example of “Your SPLOST Dollar at Work” and effective
teamwork.”
This portion of Rockbridge Road has been closed for two years as a safety precaution due to the failure of the
north bridge abutment; a structure that connects the ends of the bridge and the foundation. After replacing the
structures, the bridge will be accessible following the ribbon cutting for members of the community.
For more information, please contact Rockdale Department of Transportation at (770)278-7200.

Rockdale County to Launch ‘Operation Green Light’ In Support of Local Veterans

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – In recognition of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, Rockdale County announced plans to illuminate the front of the Rockdale County Courthouse green beginning on November 1st – 11th as part of Operation Green LightOperation Green Light is a new national collaborative initiative of the National Association of Counties (NACo) to support military veterans. The initiative raises awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans and the resources that are available at the county, state, and federal level.

Rockdale County adopted a resolution in support of the NACo initiative on October 11th, designating October through Veterans Day, November 11th, as a time to salute and honor our men and women who served in the Armed Forces.

“Our veterans have dedicated part of their lives serving our country. November is a time to honor these heroes and reflect on the contributions they have made to the freedoms we enjoy,” Commissioner Doreen Williams said. “I am excited to join in Operation Green Light for Veterans by lighting our courthouse green. Look for the green lights and be sure to thank a veteran for their service!”

In addition to lighting the courthouse, residents and businesses are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends.

By shining a green light, we let our veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported. Participants are encouraged to continue shining the light year-round. Residents can share their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.

Rockdale County residents are also invited to the Walk of Heroes Annual Veterans Day Program on November 11th, 11 a.m. at Black Shoals Park, 2825 Black Shoals Rd, Conyers, GA 30012.

Visit naco.org/operationgreenlight for more information and links to resources available to veterans. Visit walkofheroes.org for more information about the Veterans Day program.
