Rockdale County Offers Info Sessions to Educate the Community about Departments


ROCKDALE COUNTY PRESS RELEASE

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – After strong citizen interest in the Citizens Government Academy (CGA) and the County’s desire to educate a larger audience about how the departments operate, Rockdale County is now transitioning CGA to Info Sessions. These Info Sessions will occur at 6 p.m. in the Rockdale County Auditorium at 903 Main Street, Conyers, GA. The sessions will start in February and span through October.

The schedule for the sessions is below:

• February 15 – Board of Assessors & Tax Commissioner’s Office
• March 15 – Talent Management and Finance
• April 19 – Planning & Development
• May 10 – Parks & Recreation / Senior Services
• June 14 – Court Services and General Services
• July 12 – Government Affairs and Public Relations
• August 9 – Rockdale Water Resources, Stormwater and Transportation
• September 13 Fire-Rescue and Emergency Management Agency (EMA)
• October 11 – Board of Elections & Voter Registration

In addition to being held in person, the sessions will be live-streamed to the Rockdale County website at rockdalecountyga.gov, the Official Rockdale County Facebook Page at facebook.com/RockdaleGov, and the Rockdale 23 YouTube Channel.

At these sessions, Rockdale County department representatives will share information with the community to give insight into what the department does and how it serves them. Attendees will also be able to participate in a Q&A session following the presentation.

A month before each session, a Department Spotlight video will be shared via Rockdale County social media channels and Rockdale 23 as another avenue to learn about the departments.

These meetings are open to the public, and the public is strongly encouraged to attend. Those who are interested in CGA are also strongly encouraged to attend.

Board of Commissioners Seeking Candidates to Serve on the 2023 SPLOST Oversight Committee


ROCKDALE COUNTY PRESS RELEASE

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Rockdale County Board of Commissioners needs approximately 35 appointments to serve as a citizen oversight committee for the 2023 SPLOST for Transportation, Sheriff, Fire, Parks and Recreation, and Courthouse. Meetings will begin in April of 2023 with ongoing meetings at J.P Carr Community Hall.

The SPLOST Oversight Committee is a group of volunteer citizens who work with County staff to prioritize and oversee the completion of the projects as funding is collected. The SPLOST Oversight Committee also provides input and oversight to assure that the SPLOST program is implemented in an expedient, organized and responsible manner.

Citizens’ involvement has played a key role in the successful implementation of previous SPLOST programs in Rockdale County, including 2017, 2011, 2005, 1999, 1996, and 1992 SPLOSTs, and will continue to be a critical part of the engagement with the community and the transparency of the Board of Commissioners regarding taxpayer funding of the 1% sales tax.

Public Relations Department Presents “End It!”: A Forum Against Human Trafficking


ROCKDALE COUNTY PRESS RELEASE

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga.- National Human Trafficking Awareness Day is January 11. In recognition of this day Rockdale County Public Relations department invites everyone to wear blue (#WearBlueDay), and attend “End IT!” a forum against Human Trafficking. The forum will be held at the Rockdale County Auditorium (903 Main Street, Conyers GA) on January 11, 2023 – doors open at 6:30 pm.

Panelist speakers at the forum include Dr. Nicole Haig from Northside Hospital, DeBaja Coleman from the Department of Juvenile Justice, Kayla Peeples from DDS Commercial Transportation, Judge Maureen Wood from Rockdale County Juvenile Court and many more.

Human trafficking, which includes sex trafficking and forced labor, affects an estimated 25 million people and is growing globally. Victims can be of any nationality, age, socioeconomic status, or gender. Learn more about the signs of Human Trafficking, how to avoid being targeted, what to do in an emergency and what you can do to help “END IT” by attending the forum on January 11, 2023.
