Board of Assessors Offers Extended Office Hours on April 1^st

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – The Board of Assessor’s office will open on Saturday, April 1st, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. April 1st is the last day to file for Homestead Exemption. The Board of Assessors will use the extended office hours to assist residents with questions on filing their Homestead Exemption.

A homestead exemption reduces the property taxes homeowners owe on their legal residence. Residents are urged to determine eligibility, gather the necessary documents, then file their exemption. The Board of Assessors office is at 981 Milstead Ave, Conyers, GA 30012.

Transit Development Plan – Open House

Transit Development Plan – Open House

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Rockdale County Department of Transportation is hosting an Open House, and the public is encouraged to attend. The open house will be held on March 21st from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at J.P Carr Community Center – 981 Taylor St., Conyers, GA 30012.

Stop by to learn more about the Rockdale County Transit Development Plan and to share your feedback by attending an in-person open house meeting. Public input about transportation challenges and concerns is crucial to the Rockdale Transit Development Plan process.

The open house will allow the public to review information related to the plan and provide feedback on safety improvements at intersections, pedestrian facilities like sidewalks, and additional information related to local transit services. The project team will be on hand to answer questions. Anyone unable to attend this event can also ask questions or submit comments to: rockdaletdp@tcfatl.com

Chairman Nesbitt to Host 1st Shop Talk of 2023

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Rockdale County Chairman Oz Nesbitt, Sr., will host the first Shop Talk forum of the year. This event, held at local barbershops, connects the community with government staff and officials. This event will be held at The Lab Barber Shop at 1820 GA Highway 20, Suite 158, Conyers, GA 30013, on Saturday, March 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This Shop Talk will feature the following speakers to answer questions and concerns from a candid audience:

Phinia Aten, Rockdale County Magistrate Judge
Marian McDaniel, Rockdale County Fire-Rescue, Chief
Sharon Webb, Rockdale County Fire-Rescue, Deputy Fire Chief
Eric Levett, Rockdale County Sheriff

Shop Talk is a grass-roots approach to getting to know the community by interacting and engaging in an “open-air” dialogue. The series will also introduce government officials and staff to those who may not know who they are, their roles, and their duties and responsibilities.

Public Notice: Sigman and Rockbridge Rd Closure

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – In an effort to accelerate the corrective work on Sigman Road Phase II Widening and Multiuse Path Construction Project, the Rockdale Department of Transportation (RDOT) announced there will be a roadway closure at Sigman Rd. and Rockbridge Rd. on Saturday, March 4, 2023. Traffic will be detoured around Sigman Rd. on the West and Rockbridge Rd. on the North.

From the North – traffic traveling northbound on Rockbridge, towards Sigman, will need to take a right onto Sigman and head eastbound.
From the South – traffic traveling southbound on Rockbridge, towards Sigman, will need to detour onto Farmer Rd.
From the West- traffic traveling eastbound on Sigman, towards Rockbridge, will need to detour onto Lester or Farmer Rd.
From the East – traffic traveling westbound on Sigman, towards Rockbridge, will need to take a left onto Rockbridge and head southbound.

The closure begins on Saturday, March 4, at 7:00 am and will reopen at 5:00 pm. Detour signage will be placed prior to the closure. Uniformed officers (e.g., State Patrol) will provide traffic control support on-site. Road closures are subject to weather cancellations. In the event of bad weather, the closure will be postponed.
