Animal Services Calls Meeting on Current Strategic Plan
ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – The Animal Services Department will be hosting a meeting open to the public on May 11, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to inform the public about the state of Animal Services.
The meeting will discuss updates concerning the strategic plan, including program phase breakdowns, key completed and ongoing initiatives, stats/figures, and plans for the future of Animal Services.
Residents, Animal Businesses, Rescue Groups, and Animal Rights Groups are encouraged to attend to learn about the work Animal Services has been accomplishing, to get involved with assisting the animals in the area, and to share their ideas with the division moving forward. Rockdale County Animal Services strive to lend a helping hand to the animals that need us.

PRIORITIZING COMMUNITY HEALTH AND WELLNESS IN GEORGIA
New project is part of National Fitness Campaign – a nationwide initiative to build Healthy Communities

[ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA — April 20th, 2023] — On April 11th, 2023, Rockdale County unveiled an outdoor Fitness Court® at Wheeler Park, 1400 Parker Rd SE, improving and enhancing the quality of life for Georgia residents. This capital project is a featured part of the 2023 initiative launched by National Fitness Campaign (NFC), a nationwide wellness consulting firm that partners with municipalities and schools to plan, build and fund Healthy Communities. NFC’s award-winning initiative is now planning its 500th Healthy Community in America and is poised to deliver vital outdoor wellness programs helping to fight the obesity epidemic across the country.
This year, Rockdale County and dozens of other select recipients nationwide were awarded a $30,000 grant from NFC to help support the program. In addition to grant funding, SPLOST and general funding contributed to making the project possible in Conyers.
The new Fitness Court® at Wheeler Park is the world’s best outdoor gym and allows users to leverage their body weight to get a complete workout using seven stations. Created for adults aged 14 and older, the Fitness Court is adaptable for all fitness levels. Users can also download the free Fitness Court App — a coach-in-your-pocket style platform — that transforms the world’s best outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience. The Fitness Court App is available for iOS and Android.
“When we as a community invest in our health, good things happen!” said Parks and Recreation Leadership, welcoming the court to our city. Parks and Recreation are currently looking for Fitness Ambassadors to help involve the community in using the new Fitness Court and give an in-person example of how simple the court is to use. Rockdale County Fire-Rescue to Hold Groundbreaking for New Fire Station #10
ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – Rockdale County Fire Rescue is breaking ground on the new Fire Station #10. Fire Rescue and General Services will hold the Fire Station #10 groundbreaking ceremony on Wed., May 17, at 11:30 a.m. at 3100 Highway 138 NE. Conyers, GA.
The brand-new station will be an additional fire station that will house an engine and a quint to serve the north side of the County. The building will be an 8,000-square-foot all-brick building with three vehicle bays, day quarters with a kitchen, dining area, living room, and night quarters with ten bunk rooms, showers, and a weight room. It will also include an office and a separate entrance for the public. The new station will cost approximately $3.6M, paid for through SPLOST funding. The estimated completion for this project is May 2024.

RockdaleCountyGa.Gov has A Brand-New Look!
ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – The Rockdale County Government website has received several upgrades and updates from the collaboration between county departments and Solia Digital Media in Rockdale County. These digital renovations are more than an aesthetic upgrade, as they have improved upon the older site in numerous ways.
The site home page has been edited for visual appeal and consistency with the County colors and brand. It includes Prominent links to pages that citizens regularly rely on, the latest news feed, the latest featured videos, a consolidated menu that enables users to see the links to nearly every part of the website right on the main page, an events Calendar to which citizens may subscribe, and a header video displaying the beauty of Rockdale County’s land and people.
The site has also rebuilt a live search function. We have installed a brand-new translation feature, enabling users to get direct translations in many languages. The site offers disability access for the visually impaired by employing special shortcut keys to enlarge text or change colors and contrast. The site also has a Read-aloud function for those who need it.
The site is responsive and adjusts its layout based on the user’s device. Each department has a landing page with its menu navigation that links to that department’s pages. These landing pages are standardized so that citizens can easily find the contact information for the department.
Finally, we have made communicating and being transparent with citizens more straightforward. A new PDF document feature makes it easier for citizens to search and retrieve documents. The system uses a database that displays records in a tabular form within folders organized by date and type.
These changes will make interacting with the website and finding the answers one needs much more straightforward. Rockdale residents are encouraged to peruse the site for events, county updates, department information, and more!
