The Rockdale County Coroner’s Office (RCO) is Charged by Georgia Law to determine the manner and cause of death by an extensive investigation. The (RCO) is committed to delivering high quality professional forensic and laboratory services to the citizens of Rockdale County. Our staff supports our obligation to investigate sudden, unnatural and violent deaths with compassion for family and friends during their time of grief.
(RCO) responds to calls twenty-four hours a day, seven-days a week to investigate and determine the Cause and Manner of Death. Everyone in the Coroner’s office regularly attends educational seminars to keep abreast of any new advances in death investigation as they are developed.
Rockdale Coroner’s Office applies current scientific methods for evidence analysis and investigations to effectively assist law enforcement, judicial court systems and health and environmental agencies. A variety of modern medicolegal investigative techniques, including an autopsy, when indicated, to establish the medical cause of death and the medicolegal manner of death (natural, accident, homicide, suicide or undetermined).
Additionally, RCO partners with Law Enforcement agencies such as the Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, and the Child Abuse Protocol Committee in studying the facts surrounding such deaths and their causes.
Upon completion of the coroner’s investigation and post-mortem examination, the Coroner or his Deputy, upon delivery of a death certificate initiated by the Funeral Home, will complete said death certificate and return the certificate to the Funeral Director who is then responsible for having it certified. The death certificate is then made available to the family following the funeral or services. After that initial period, copies may be obtained at: Rockdale County Probate Court: 874 N.
