As part of the County’s NPDES permit requirements and stormwater management program, the Department of Stormwater Management provides a street sweeping program. Residential areas are routinely swept twice each year. The County contracts a private firm to sweep priority area roads on a semi-annual basis in an effort to remove pollutants from the road before they enter the storm drain system. Priority areas are defined as roads with high average daily trips, older subdivisions, overgrown areas and areas that receive frequent complaints of litter. All debris collected during the sweeping events is disposed of at a local legal landfill. It is much easier and cost effective to remove potential pollutants at the source, rather than try to mitigate their effect on storm drain systems or our water resources.
Residential are for sweeping, you can help us out by placing your garbage cans on the property line at your driveway’s apron and not in the streets. If garbage cans are left in the streets, our street sweeping equipment cannot clear debris from alongside the roads.
