Come out and enjoy Sunset Cinema with Rockdale County Parks & Rec staff as we transform various parks into an outdoor movie theater for Friday night fun. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets to these family-friendly films.

Dash For Dogs 5K

Rockdale County Parks & Recreation along with Rockdale Animal Control and East Metro Board of Realtors will be hosting our annual Dash for Dogs 5K at Rockdale County newest facility Costley Mill Park. The goal of this event is to raise the necessary funds for Rockdale County Animal Control to purchase much-needed equipment for the outside dog runs at their location. All pre-registered participants will receive a T-Shirt. Day of the race registered participants will receive a T-Shirt while supplies last. Dogs are welcome to participate in the 5K as long as they are leashed at all times, current on rabies & distemper vaccines, and have excellent temperament with other dogs and children.
Strollers are welcomed. Animal Control will have dogs on site for adoption.

Latin Fever Social 

Come out and Celebrate National Hispanic Month. A beginner’s Latin dance class will be taught at 7:00 pm for newcomers. Then the party begins with some of the hottest dance moves like the Cha Cha, Salsa, and Merengue. Refreshments will be served.

Trash & Treasure Community Yard Sale 

Clean out the house, make some cash and shop for interesting treasures at this outdoor event. Bring household goods, toys, clothes, and other items that have been pushed around for months in the closet, basement or attic and join the
community “yard sale.” JPCC reserves the right to disallow items deemed inappropriate. **Set up starts at 7 a.m.**

Zombie Fun & Fright Night 

Join us for an exciting and thrilling night as we hold the Johnson Park Annual Halloween Fest. This spine-chilling family-oriented event will provide a safe and fun new twist on trick or treating. With the help from the community and local businesses, families will be able to enjoy the hayride along our trail here at the park and trunk or treat in the designated areas. Portions of the trail will be a little spookier than others and other activities will be available throughout the facility. Be a part of this spooktacular night and make the Johnson Park Halloween Fest a night you won’t forget! Watch for flyers that will have more details of this night! Activities are a minimal fee.

Give thanks by Giving: Rockdale County Thanksgiving Package Food Drive

In the tradition of neighbors sharing their bounty with each other, we are asking the community to help ensure that everyone has a Thanksgiving dinner. Some Rockdale County residents are food insecure and do not know where their next meal is coming from if you are able; please consider giving to others who may not share the same luxuries. Our goal is to help 100 families celebrate Thanksgiving. Please encourage your family, friends, and co-workers to join you in your giving.

Giving is Easy
1. Pick up your Bag(s): Thanksgiving Package bags can be picked up at the Johnson Park Recreation Center; 9 a.m. –8 p.m. Monday—Friday and Saturdays from 10 a.m.—5p.m starting October 29, 2018.
2. Fill your Bag(s): Fill your bag with the items on the list. Please check the items off on the bag as you pack it. Complete bags can be folded at the top and taped shut. Incomplete bags should NOT be taped shut.
3. Deliver your Bag(s): Deliver your bags to the Johnson Park Recreation Center, Monday, November 12 through Friday, November 16 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
4. Feel Good: Knowing you helped make a difference to a family in your community who struggles with food security. This family will celebrate Thanksgiving because of your efforts.

Wish Tree

Help everyone have a Merry Christmas. Make a wish with Rockdale County Parks and Recreation Division and the Emergency Relief Fund. Donations can range from clothes to toys. Participants pick an angel from the tree and purchase a gift, and when it is brought back to Johnson Park the participant will be eligible for a free annual family pass to the Johnson Park Recreation Center. Drawing will be held on December 18, 2018
(Participants do not have to be present to win).

All Donations will be delivered on Monday, December 18, 2018.

Candy Cane Hunt 

Calling all children ages 2-5 years old. We will be having a candy cane hunt at Johnson Park. It’s a chance to decorate a Season Goody, find candy canes and participate in a craft activity. If you are an individual or a daycare that would like to participate please contact LaVonda at 770-278-7241 to register.
