Rockdale County kicked off the first BOC on the Road of the year at J. H. House Elementary School. At the start of the meeting there were a several presentations.
Rockdale County Community Ambassadors were recognized by the BOC for volunteering their time at Rockdale County events.
- Most Promising Ambassador – Ms. Denell Ponder
- Most Reliable Ambassador – Ms. Charlene Ellis
- Ambassador of the Year – Mr. Terry Moore
Ms. Cindy Banks, while dealing with medical challenges, received special recognition from the BOC for her dedication to the program. Rockdale Community Ambassadors is a civic group spearheaded by the Office of the Chairman. The organization consists of volunteer ambassadors that have an interest in promoting the quality of life for the communities and citizens of the Rockdale County area. Tax Assessor Office Deputy Director Curtis Briscoe was received a certificate of recognition from the BOC. Deputy Director Briscoe was elected to the Rockdale County Metro District Executive Board for the Georgia Association of Assessing Officials. Rockdale County Chairman Oz Nesbitt, Sr. said “Deputy Director Briscoe is a rising star in Rockdale County.”
The BOC acknowledged another rising star on the horizon. Mr. Barkley Dowdy, a sixth grader at General Ray Davis Middle School, who placed first at the Circuit Court Oratory Competition. Barkley took us on rhetorical journey with reciting a letter from slaveowner and responding to the letter with accomplishments of African Americans concluding with the election of the 44th President of the United States Barack Obama.
Chief of Staff Corey Hambrick provided an update on the strategic plan. Updates will be presented at the BOC on the Road meetings.
Ms. Rebecca Gibbons from the Unidos Somos United, and members of business community are spearheading a campaign in support of the 2020 Census in Rockdale County. They plan to target the non—English speaking populations.
