Free Storm Debris Pickup Deadline Approaching In Rockdale
CONYERS, Ga. – Rockdale County residents have until Monday, Oct. 23, to request the free removal of debris caused by storms associated with Tropical Storm Irma.
The County began offering this free service to pick up tree limbs, branches and other vegetative storm related debris on Sept. 18 in response to the storms, and later by request. Since the beginning of the pickup, County departments including Rockdale County Department of Transportation (RDOT), Parks and Recreation, Rockdale Water Resources (RWR) and Stormwater have collected more than 1850 cubic yards of storm debris.
Residents still in need of storm debris removal can contact RDOT directly via “Service Request” in any of the following ways:
- By phone at 770-278-7200
- Fax request to 770-761-3024
- Email to firstname.lastname@example.org ‘Service Request Storm Debris’ in the subject line.
Residents needing assistance with clearing or moving storm debris to the right-of-way can call the Crisis Clean-up Hotline at 800-451-1954.
Only storm related debris placed at the right-of-way (at the curb) will be picked up. The right-of-way includes the sidewalk, the area where a mailbox stands, and other similar areas. Rockdale County cleanup teams cannot remove debris from or on private property. Residents are strongly advised to keep all debris out of the roadway, and to not block mailboxes, driveways or fire hydrants. Residents should not park vehicles in front of debris piles; teams must be able to access the debris to remove them.
Debris includes limbs, branches and other vegetation that has grown in a person’s yard and is or has once been green. Furniture, unrelated garbage, and other household/residential debris will not be picked up. Do not bag any storm debris that you move to the right-of-way.
