Rockdale County strives for better achievement in conservation and reducing its environmental impact. The county has implemented policies and practices that contribute to efficient and sustainable use of resources and it has been an Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) Bronze Certified Green Community since December 2015.

ARC developed the Green Communities Program to recognize local governments that invest in programs and policies that lead to a more sustainable region.

Rockdale County started an outreach program to highlight sustainability and best practices. The county collaborates with businesses regarding sustainability challenges, conservation opportunities, and ways to lessen the county’s carbon footprint.

Rockdale kicked-off its outreach program by collaborating with Pratt Industries on May 5. Health TRUST Rockdale is another organization the county shared its eco-friendly efforts with on May 16. By engaging with these two groups, Rockdale County also learned other ways to recycle and save energy.

Pratt Industries is America’s fifth largest corrugated packaging company. Headquartered in Rockdale County, it operates an extensive recycling business to supply four of the most modern, cost-effective 100% recycled paper mills in the country. The company has been honored by many environmental leaders for promoting recycling as an important weapon against climate change.

Health TRUST Rockdale is the grant-making division of the Hospital Authority of Rockdale County that works to improve the physical and mental health of Rockdale County residents through partnerships with non-profit agencies and governmental entities.

Rockdale’s future outreach plans include giving a sustainability presentation to the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce at its October 24 meeting and continuing to connect with other local businesses to build a greener county.
